The Importance of Writing

I know I’ll be preaching to the choir so bear with me.  I am a closet writer and avid reader who also lives with a published author so I do have a view of both sides of the coin.  Life of a writer, since most of you whom are reading this are authors, is quite unrewarding as you are well aware.  You feel as though the book is never good enough or written to your full potential.  The finished novel always seems to be a letdown once you turn back through the pages.  It seems exciting while you’re on the journey but once there your exhausted and need some bourbon.  However the next great book is already churning in the mind.  Why you ask yourself do I keep doing this?

If we didn’t have authors than what a dull and daft world we would be living in.  There would be neither books to open our minds or make us think from different perspectives nor any movies that thrill and chill us as we hold the ones next to us tight.  Just try to imagine a world without Shakespeare, Keats, Hemmingway, King, Rice or Zimmer!  That world is a place you and I both wouldn’t want to live.

One keeps writing because it is a release and it’s a personal view to share with others as to what makes you feel, think and fear.  As bookworms we find it exhilarating to grab a book and leave our daily routines to take a magical voyage to a new land and experience new horrors and sensual intimacy.  That my friends is why we need our word slingers to keep pen to paper or fingers to keys.

The point to all this rambling is that no matter what release or let down you feel towards your works of art just remember it will be quite precious to another reader.  Not everyone will love it but that one book can change another’s life in miraculous ways.  We all need a break from the so called “real world” every now and then.  So keep sharing that gift and remember it is a true artistry!
