What was your inspiration for the Deathly Encounters series?

deathsrevivalcover1200x800My inspiration for the Deathly Encounters Series was wanting to answer the question what would happen if you did one thing and that one thing turned into being the wrong thing. Kinda like the Butterfly Effect. If you make one decision how does it affect the rest of the world around you. Once I had answered the question, I had to bend it to what I’m interesting in and using psychics and grim reapers just seemed to work.

With an established figure like the Grim Reaper in literature/movies/games, how did you approach this character and put your own take on it?

Who says that the Grim Reaper is established? All we see is one side of the reaper and that is when they take souls. My big thing with reapers is that they are also angels. They have the ability to traverse universes, timelines, alternate realities, and go between worlds. Some of my reapers used to be human. Or they are angels who gained a soul.

How would you describe your writing style to a reader?

I don’t think I have a style. I write what I like at this point. I write the books that I want to read. I’m tired of being labeled. I have my own style that happens to include writing about paranormal stuff because that’s what interests me and it’s what a big part of my life revolves around. They say write what you know so I write about being psychic and my experiences with ghosts.

As a writer of multiple genres, do you have any that you find more challenging than others to write?
If you do, why do you think that is so?

Yes for me to write in the fantasy genre is a nightmare. I have a couple of books that are pure fantasy and it took me forever to get them onto paper. Trying to convince the characters to move into a paranormal world wasn’t something they were too keen on.

Do you have any genres that tend to be your favorites to write? And are those the same genres that are your favorites to read?

My favorite genres to write in are a mixture of horror and urban fantasy. They tend to have a bit of romance thrown in there too. Yes I enjoy reading horror more than anything else especially vampires. I’m a sucker, hahaha, for a good vampire novel. Although I’m really picky.

What genres might you want to explore in the future?

Haven’t really thought about going out of the genres I write in for future plans.

Who are some of your writing influences?

Some of my writing influences are; Anne Rice, L.J, Smith, Christopher Moore, Tanith Lee, Nancy Collins, Nancy Kilpatrick, Karen E. Taylor. And way too many more to write.

Describe your process a little bit? Any regular habits like a favorite place or listening to music while writing?
I write when I have time. That is my process. I go to a local coffee shop to get away from my dogs so I can concentrate. And I have a weekly writing group I go out to so I can get some stuff done.

What is the toughest part about being an author in this day and age?

The toughest part of being an author today is getting noticed and having someone actually buy your books. There are so many other fishes in the sea it’s hard to get a bite. You can market all you want, but even then it doesn’t help at times. And I don’t have tons of money to do a lot of marketing.

What kinds of things do you like to do to unwind? Any interests of yours that your readers might not guess about you?

To unwind I watch horror movies or go for a walk. I read. I go to the gym. I spend time with friends. I just get outside.
